The cleaning process is one of the most important steps during the whole cycle of steps performed to coat our customer parts. This step is almost as important as the coating process since no coating could perform well if its adhesion to the substrate is not 100%. The cleaning line takes away machining and polishing residues, oil and grease, fingerprints, etc.
The aim of the cleaning process is to prepare the surface to me metallic and free of any contaminants that could jeopardize the adhesion of the coating. The cleaning line usually has a sequence of various heated and ultrasonically activated water based degreaser steps followed by a rinse and an out-gassing oven. We use a different cleaning line for customers with carbide tools compared to those sending us high speed steel substrates for coating. Of course after receiving and prior to the cleaning process all substrates are inspected for shipping and handling damages.
