Project Description
MOS2 Coating
Molybdenum Disulfide Coating
Molybdenum disulfide is an inorganic compound composed of molybdenum and sulfur. Their application can be seen in load carrying capacity, operating temperature. The process uses the transfer of lubricant between the two surfaces. Its properties are also best used as a dry film lubricant.
Properties of MOS2 Coatings
Moly coatings are used by making a combination of Molybdenum Disulphide and a few other resins. They are cured thermally and then attached to the base of the metal. Further used as a solid film lubricant in industrial uses. These include grease, paints and other lubricants (grease based). Also known as MOS2, the lubricant undergoes a wide range of temperature and pressures. Its lattice layer molecular structure helps in creating the bond with the metal structure.

Magnetron Sputtering
There are 2 famous ways of using this coating process.
Burnishing/ Rubbing – The use of molybdenum in its powder form is preferred to create the lubricating effect on the surface. Further, the powder is applied to the metal structure using a soft fabric pad. There are individual applicators for coatings like these. Keep a few things in check while the process is done. For instance, the powder should not spread anywhere apart from your metal surface. An aluminium oxide blast is recommended for this process.
PVD- The introduction of PVD in the metal cutting industry is one of the breakthroughs the world has seen. Industrially it has wide popularity in usages like Automotives, aerospace and what not. From Decorative coatings to low friction coating it serves a multipurpose use. The process used is a vacuum coating technique which layers a thin surface to any metal surface. Even the self -cleaning windows are an essential application of this technology
WHO WE ARE
Advanced Coating Technologies (ACT) started its operations in 2006 and is one of the leading coating providers on the West Coast. Our expertise and state-of-the-art equipment deliver certified high-performance coatings including our unique Molybdenum Disulfide (MoS2) coating.
MoS2 coatings can be applied to components where there are concerns related to load-carrying capacity, operating pressure, and friction. MoS2 helps reduce wear and corrosion while also minimizing flaking, chipping, and peeling. MoS2 application produces a long-lasting solid lubricant coating for critical parts and equipment.
